How to Create a Test with SimplTests in Under 5 Minutes
SimplTests lets you build tests from scratch with 11 question types, drag-and-drop reordering, per-question points, and image support. No LMS required—create, save, and export when you're ready.
Why Create Tests in SimplTests?
Whether you need a quick quiz, a unit exam, or a formative check, SimplTests gives you one place to build it. Create questions manually or use AI for multiple choice, true/false, and short answer. Save once, then export to Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Kahoot, Google Forms, or Google Slides—or schedule a timed assessment directly in SimplTests. No more switching between tools or re-typing questions.
1. Enter Your Test Title
Go to Create Test in the header. Enter a title like "Unit 3 Quiz" or "Midterm Review." The title appears on your saved test and when you export. You can change it anytime by editing the test.

2. Add Questions and Choose a Type
Click Add new question. You'll see a dropdown with 11 question types: Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer, Short Answer, True/False, Essay, Fill-in-the-Blank, Numeric, Matching, Ordering, Dropdown, and Likert Scale. Pick the type that fits your question. Each type has its own editor—options for multiple choice, pairs for matching, items for ordering, and so on.

3. Configure Each Question
Enter the question text, add options or pairs where needed, and mark the correct answer. You can set points per question (0–100). For matching and ordering questions, drag items to reorder. For fill-in-the-blank, use underscores in the template (e.g., "The capital of France is _____."). For essay questions, optionally add a model answer for grading reference. Images can be attached to any question.
4. Reorder with Drag-and-Drop
Questions appear in the order you add them. To reorder, drag a question by its handle and drop it where you want. The same applies to ordering questions—drag items to set the correct sequence. Reordering is instant and saves when you save the test.
5. Save Your Test
When you're done, click Save. Your test appears in Saved Tests. From there you can schedule an assessment, export to an LMS, or edit the test again. You can create tests as a guest or as a signed-in user; signed-in users get persistent storage.
